For heat exchanger applications,
a buyer should look for parts and components that are light-weight,
efficient and cost effective. It is also important to consider
various characteristics of copper including; cold and warm bending,
corrosion resistance, excellent heat conductivity, versatility, good
welding , soldering qualities & more. Some of the important
features of the metal that you may want to bring in to consideration
are:-
- In order to achieve the best results in tubular heat
exchangers and piping system, use of copper alloy such as
Al-brass, 90-10 Cu-Ni shall be preferred.
- As unfavorable conditions like chloride containing water can
initiate corrosion on tube and plate material. In order to
achieve adequate corrosion resistance, a protective layer shall
be formed on the water side of the copper alloy.
- Excellent performance can only be obtained or expected, when
the tube quality, formulation and design, fabrication and
operation of the equipment are in accordance with the
engineering standards.
- While looking for resistance against hot seawater and brines,
Copper and it's alloys such as Al-Brass, 90-10 Cu-Ni and 70-30
Cu-Ni shall be used, as they provide better corrosion
resistance.
